Our Thoughts

The 2026 Sportsman Open 352 Center Console represents a thoroughly modern approach to offshore fishing and family cruising, combining proven center console functionality with genuine cabin comfort and serious fishing infrastructure. At 35.17 feet with an 11.17-foot beam, this is a vessel built to handle the Gulf of Mexico with legitimate seaworthiness while delivering the open-water versatility that defines the center console category.

Power comes from a triple Mercury 400 HP V10 four-stroke engine package—a significant specification that speaks to both performance capability and operational efficiency. The Mercury Joystick Piloting system with Sea Station integration transforms boat handling, particularly in close-quarters maneuvering and docking situations where precision matters. This is not a cosmetic upgrade; it fundamentally changes how the boat responds to driver input and reduces fatigue on longer runs.

The helm is anchored by dual Garmin 22-inch multi-function displays paired with Open Array Radar, providing the navigation and fish-finding capability expected on a vessel at this price point and size. These electronics form a complete system for both navigation and structure location, whether you're running offshore or working nearshore structure.

The fishing-focused design elements are substantial: two 30-gallon live wells support extended offshore trips, while two electric reel outlets accommodate larger game fish applications. Dual side dive doors—a feature not standard on all center consoles—add genuine utility for anglers who need quick water access or prefer working baits from multiple positions.

The air-conditioned cabin in the console is a genuine amenity rather than a token feature. Powered by a 12-volt battery system with dash vents for the helm station, it provides respite during hot-weather cruising and serves as a legitimate retreat during afternoon thunderstorms common to Gulf waters. This is practical design, not luxury theater.

Seating spans the vessel thoughtfully: club-style fold-down benches in the rear cockpit maximize cockpit flexibility, while the bow features a convertible electric table that functions as comfortable seating with the table raised, converts to a full sun lounge in the middle position, or drops completely flat for open lounging space. This layout acknowledges that modern center console ownership often involves family and non-fishing guests alongside serious anglers.

The sound system—complete JL Audio specification with ten speakers, two subwoofers, and three amplifiers—indicates attention to the entertainment side of boat ownership. This is a proper marine audio installation, not an afterthought.

Practical design extends to the bilge compartment, where large access points and logical equipment placement make routine maintenance and troubleshooting straightforward. This matters over the long ownership cycle; boats with poor bilge access become expensive to maintain.

Storage capacity is supported by a 355-gallon fuel tank and 35-gallon water tank, providing the range and freshwater reserves necessary for multi-day offshore operations or extended coastal cruising. This is a boat that can genuinely leave the inlet and spend time offshore.

The 2026 Sportsman Open 352 Center Console in this configuration delivers the core competencies buyers seek in the mid-35-foot center console category: solid offshore capability, genuine fishing infrastructure, cabin comfort for mixed-use cruising, and modern electronics integration. It is purpose-built for the Gulf Coast market and configured to support both serious fishing and family boating without compromise to either mission.

2026 Sportsman Open 352 Center Console – Triple Mercury 400 HP Joystick Piloting & Offshore-Ready Electronics
Overview
The 2026 Sportsman Open 352 Center Console represents a modern evolution in mid-range offshore fishing and cruising design, combining a 35.17-foot hull with triple Mercury 400 HP V10 4-Stroke outboards and advanced joystick piloting technology. Available now in Sarasota, Florida, this center console delivers the performance, seating versatility, and fish-ready systems that appeal to serious anglers and families seeking a capable platform for both nearshore and offshore operations. The triple-engine configuration with Mercury's joystick steering system provides intuitive boat handling and precision positioning—essential features for reef fishing, tournament preparation, and anchored entertainment. The addition of air-conditioned cabin comfort, dual Garmin electronics, and thoughtful deck design elevates this model beyond basic fishing platforms, making it suitable for extended cruising and social entertaining.
Layout and Deck Design
The Sportsman 352 Open is engineered around an expansive center console layout that maximizes usable deck space while maintaining structural integrity and sight lines. The open cockpit design flows naturally from the helm station forward to the bow, with the cabin console positioned centrally to provide weather protection and storage without compromising the sight lines essential to fishing and navigation. Two side dive doors—one on each side of the console—provide direct water access for divers and swimmers, a practical feature for cruising to reef destinations or tropical anchorages where water activities are part of the itinerary. The bow area showcases a multi-functional seating arrangement anchored by an electric table-filler lounge system. This innovative feature converts from a comfortable raised seating position with the table deployed, to a full sun lounge when the table is lowered, and finally to a completely open bow platform when fully retracted. This flexibility addresses the modern demand for versatile entertaining spaces—lunch service, sunbathing, or unobstructed casting room can all be accommodated without reconfiguring the boat. The arrangement reflects thoughtful design that prioritizes both comfort and functionality. The rear cockpit seating employs club-style fold-down benches, a configuration that provides ample seating for crew and passengers while maintaining clear deck space for fishing activity. When folded, the benches free up significant room for rod storage, coolers, and movement during active fishing. This design philosophy—comfortable but not cluttered—distinguishes the 352 Open from vessels that sacrifice practicality for aesthetic seating arrangements.
Helm and Electronics
The helm station is equipped with two Garmin 22-inch multi-function displays, providing redundancy and split-screen capability for navigation, sonar, and chartplotting. Garmin's ecosystem of compatible transducers and software ensures that depth, structure, and fish-finding data are presented with clarity and precision. Open Array Radar integration adds weather awareness and target identification capability, particularly valuable for offshore transit or low-visibility conditions. Mercury Joystick Piloting with Sea Station transforms boat handling at idle and low speeds. Rather than traditional dual-throttle and steering inputs, the joystick allows single-hand control—push forward to go forward, pull back to reverse, move left or right to steer. The system automatically coordinates engine trim, throttle, and steering, reducing fatigue during long days of positioning and anchoring. For boaters accustomed to modern automotive controls or aircraft systems, the learning curve is minimal, and the practical benefit during fishing operations—holding position on a wreck or reef without constant throttle adjustment—is substantial. Vent systems integrated into the dash provide air circulation at the helm, addressing the reality that even air-conditioned cabins benefit from directional airflow during high-speed running or in tropical climates.
Fishing Features and Systems
The Sportsman 352 Open is purpose-built for fishing operations, with systems that support both recreational and tournament-level pursuits. Two 30-gallon livewells—one forward and one aft—provide adequate capacity for a day of bottom fishing, reef fishing, or inshore species management. The livewells are designed with circulation and aeration systems that maintain water quality throughout the day, essential for keeping catch alive and ensuring compliance with tournament rules. Two electric reel outlets allow anglers to deploy and retrieve heavy tackle, outriggers, or specialized equipment without manual winding. This feature is particularly relevant for deep-drop fishing, vertical jigging in deep water, or handling large game fish where mechanical advantage and precision are required. The dive doors on both sides of the console provide practical access to the water for snorkeling, diving, or rapid entry during water sports. The side-door configuration is safer and more convenient than transom-only access, particularly when the boat is anchored and multiple people need in-water access simultaneously.
Comfort and Seating
Seating versatility is a defining characteristic of this model. The electric table-filler lounge in the bow transforms the forward platform into a social space, complete with table service for meals or drinks, or a sprawling sun lounge for relaxation. The club-style fold-down benches in the rear cockpit provide comfortable seating for crew and guests without consuming permanent deck space. The cabin includes air-conditioning, powered by a 12-volt battery-operated system, providing relief from heat during idle periods or when anchored. This is a practical comfort feature that extends the usability of the boat into hot-weather seasons and tropical destinations where shade and cooling are essential to comfort.
Audio and Interior Systems
The audio system is centered on JL Audio components, including ten speakers, two subwoofers, and three amplifiers. This configuration delivers balanced sound throughout the boat—helm area, cabin, and cockpit—with enough power and fidelity to support entertainment during anchored gatherings or cruising. JL Audio's marine-grade engineering ensures durability in the corrosive salt-air environment. Storage throughout the vessel is thoughtfully integrated. The bilge compartment is noted as exceptionally accessible, with a large access opening that allows easy inspection, maintenance, and equipment installation. Abundant storage in the bilge compartment accommodates spare parts, tools, safety equipment, and spare fuel cans without cluttering the deck or cabin spaces.
Power and Performance
The triple Mercury 400 HP V10 4-Stroke outboard configuration delivers 1,200 combined horsepower, positioning the 352 Open in the performance tier suitable for quick offshore transits, responsive handling in varied sea states, and efficient cruising at moderate speeds. Four-stroke technology provides fuel efficiency and lower emissions compared to two-stroke alternatives, a consideration for both operating costs and environmental responsibility. The fuel capacity of 355 gallons supports extended offshore cruising or full-day fishing operations without refueling concerns. At typical cruising speeds, this capacity translates to a practical operating range suitable for Gulf of Mexico fishing, extended island cruising, or multi-day expeditions. Water capacity of 35 gallons supports basic freshwater needs for rinsing, galley use, and head operation during typical day trips or overnight anchoring. Extended cruising would benefit from water management discipline or supplemental storage.
Why This Vessel Deserves Attention
The 2026 Sportsman Open 352 Center Console represents a mature design philosophy that balances fishing capability, cruising comfort, and practical entertaining space. The triple Mercury 400 HP outboard configuration with joystick piloting addresses the operational demands of modern boating—precision positioning, ease of handling, and reduced fatigue during long operating days. The Garmin electronics package, dual dive doors, dual livewells, and electric reel outlets signal that this boat is engineered for serious fishing pursuits, whether tournament-oriented or recreational. Simultaneously, the air-conditioned cabin, versatile seating arrangements, quality audio system, and accessible storage reflect an understanding that modern boat owners expect comfort and convenience alongside performance. The open center console layout maximizes sight lines and deck space, a configuration that appeals to both anglers prioritizing fishing efficiency and families seeking unobstructed entertaining areas. The electric table-filler lounge and fold-down cockpit benches demonstrate thoughtful design that adapts to multiple use cases without compromise. For buyers in the mid-range offshore center console segment seeking a turnkey-equipped platform with contemporary electronics, proven outboard reliability, and practical fishing systems, the 352 Open delivers capability and versatility in a package that performs well in both calm and challenging conditions.
