Our Thoughts

This 2005 Silverton 39 Motor Yacht represents a thoughtfully maintained offshore cruiser purpose-built for Pacific Northwest boating. At 43.42 feet with a 14-foot beam, the vessel delivers the interior spaciousness and sea-keeping capability typically found in significantly larger motor yachts, thanks to Silverton's distinctive SideWalk configuration that maximizes salon width while streamlining deck access and line handling.

Propulsion & Performance

Twin 385-horsepower Caterpillar 3126 diesel engines deliver 25-knot maximum speed and a comfortable 20-knot cruising capability. The engines show 1,370 hours and benefit from electronic engine controls, dual Racor fuel filters, and an Oil X-Change-R system that simplifies maintenance intervals. 2005 Silverton 39 Motor Yacht: A Meticulously Maintained Pacific Northwest Cruiser Ready for Extended Exploration
Overview
The 2005 Silverton 39 Motor Yacht represents a thoughtfully equipped cruising platform that has been actively maintained and upgraded by owners who understand the demands of Pacific Northwest waters. At 43.42 feet in length with a 14-foot beam, this motor yacht combines the practical proportions of a mid-sized cruiser with the accommodations and comfort features typically found in larger vessels. Located in Anacortes, Washington—a prime gateway to the San Juan Islands and Gulf Islands—this Silverton has been specifically configured and maintained for the extended cruising lifestyle that characterizes serious boaters in the region. The vessel's appeal lies not in radical modifications or trendy upgrades, but in the systematic attention to reliability, comfort, and operational readiness. Twin Caterpillar 3126 diesel engines rated at 385 horsepower each provide the power platform, while an 8-kilowatt Kohler generator supports hotel loads and electronics. The deep-V hull design, a signature characteristic of the Silverton 39 platform, delivers predictable handling and sea-keeping qualities that matter when cruising variable weather conditions. With a cruising speed of 20 knots and a maximum speed of 25 knots, the yacht balances fuel efficiency with practical transit capability across longer distances.
Layout and Deck Design: The SideWalk Advantage
Silverton's proprietary SideWalk configuration defines the deck and access philosophy of this 39 Motor Yacht. Rather than requiring crew to navigate narrow side decks or rely on exterior passages, the SideWalk system creates a safer, more efficient approach to line handling, anchoring, and general deck work. This design choice directly impacts the usability of the yacht for owners who value practical seamanship over pure interior square footage. The result is a full-beam salon that feels expansive relative to the yacht's overall length. The deck layout supports entertaining and cruising comfort through thoughtfully arranged exterior spaces: a spacious aft deck with an integrated wet bar and icemaker, a full bridge with guest seating, and a bow area with cushioned seating and a plow anchor system. A swim platform with shower and built-in ladder, along with a tender davit system and 10-foot-6-inch AB aluminum dinghy, provide the infrastructure for exploring anchorages and shallow-water destinations. Full bridge and aft deck enclosures—including a tempered glass windshield for the bridge—extend the usable season and protect occupants from wind and spray while maintaining visibility and connectivity to the marine environment. Deck carpeting adds comfort underfoot, while a washdown hose in the anchor locker supports maintenance and cleaning routines essential to long-term vessel care.
Cabin and Interior Accommodations
The interior layout accommodates six berths across two staterooms, with a master suite featuring a queen berth, ensuite head, and separate shower. The guest stateroom also includes a queen berth, and a Jackknife sofa in the salon converts to sleeping space when needed. Two electric freshwater heads—one ensuite and one forward—support the accommodation capacity without compromising privacy or convenience. Interior finishes reflect Silverton's commitment to residential-quality materials and durability. Solid cherry woods, raised panel doors, and genuine Corian countertops create an environment that feels refined without appearing fragile. Flexsteel sofas and settees upholstered in UltraLeather provide comfort and practical resistance to the moisture and UV exposure inherent in marine use. Marine-grade vinyl with Starboard backing and PreFixx coatings on exterior surfaces resists mildew and degradation. The galley is equipped with a microwave/convection oven, three-burner range with oven, built-in coffee maker, and a refrigerator/freezer unit. Ample storage throughout the interior supports extended cruising without the need for frequent provisioning stops. A large water heater supplies hot water for the heads and galley, while a central vacuum system simplifies housekeeping. Television sets in the salon and master stateroom, along with a Bose radio/CD/DVD/VCR system with surround-sound speaker package, provide entertainment options for periods at anchor or dock. Climate control is managed through three reverse-cycle heat/air units with digital controls throughout the interior, supplemented by hydronic diesel heating on the bridge. This redundant approach ensures comfort across seasons and varying ambient conditions typical of Northwest cruising.
Helm and Electronics: Redundancy and Operational Confidence
The helm station features a triple-wide helm seat positioned forward on the bridge, providing comfort during extended transits and excellent sightlines for navigation and docking. Electronic engine controls reduce physical effort and improve precision during maneuvering, while the integrated helm layout brings all primary navigation and operational functions within easy reach. The electronics suite emphasizes redundancy and comprehensive situational awareness. Dual plotters—a Furuno NavNet and a Garmin unit, both with 10-inch displays—provide GPS, chart navigation, radar, depth sounder, and speed data. A Garmin 3D bottom sounder supplies detailed bathymetric information for fishing and navigation. A Furuno autopilot handles extended cruise legs, while a VHF radio with intercom connectivity to the salon maintains communication across the vessel and with the marine environment. A compass completes the traditional navigation backup. This multi-layer electronics approach reflects the philosophy of serious cruising: redundancy ensures that equipment failure does not compromise safety or operational capability. The integration of Furuno and Garmin systems allows cross-verification of position, course, and environmental data—a practical advantage when navigating challenging waters or operating in variable conditions.
Power, Propulsion, and Fuel Management
Twin Caterpillar 3126 diesel engines, each producing 385 horsepower, drive the yacht through a conventional shaft and propeller system. At 1,370 hours on the engines, the power plant remains well within the service life expectancy of quality marine diesel engines, suggesting that regular maintenance and proper operation have been the norm rather than exception. The fuel system incorporates Racor filters on both engines and the generator, a specification that directly supports fuel quality and engine longevity in environments where fuel contamination can compromise performance. The 334-gallon fuel capacity supports the yacht's 20-knot cruising speed across substantial distances without requiring frequent refueling—a practical advantage for exploring remote anchorages and coastal destinations where fuel dock access may be limited. An 8-kilowatt Kohler generator with sound shielding supplies electrical power for hotel loads, electronics, climate control, and galley equipment when the main engines are not running. A 3,000-watt inverter provides additional electrical flexibility, while a battery charger maintains the house bank during shore power connection. The yacht accommodates both 30-amp and 50-amp shore power inlets, with a Glendinning Cablemaster system managing the 50-amp connection. New AGM house batteries installed in summer 2018 support extended periods away from shore power.
Maneuverability and Station-Keeping
Sidepower bow and stern thrusters provide precise control during docking, anchoring, and tight-quarters maneuvering—capabilities that become increasingly valuable as owners navigate crowded anchorages or narrow passages. A bow windlass with 300 feet of chain and a plow anchor supports confident anchoring across varying bottom types and holding conditions. The combination of twin main engines, bow and stern thrusters, and electronic engine controls creates a maneuvering platform that responds intuitively to helm inputs and thruster commands. For a 43-foot yacht, this level of control support significantly enhances the confidence and capability of the operator, particularly in challenging conditions or confined spaces.
Recent Service and Maintenance
The vessel's recent service history reflects the systematic approach to maintenance that characterizes well-kept cruising yachts. Bottom paint, zinc replacement, and Barnacle Shield coating applied to props, shafts, and struts address corrosion and fouling—the persistent challenges of saltwater cruising. Props were tuned and optimized for performance and efficiency. A new stern thruster installation ensures reliable station-keeping capability. A new tempered glass windshield for the bridge enclosure improves visibility and durability. The refrigerator was replaced with a new Norcold unit, supporting galley functionality and food preservation. These discrete service items, taken together, indicate that the vessel has not been neglected or deferred-maintenance, but rather has received the consistent attention necessary to maintain reliability and operational readiness.

What type of boat is the Silverton 39 Motor Yacht and what is it designed for?
The Silverton 39 Motor Yacht is a full-displacement cruising motor yacht built on a deep V hull design, measuring 43.42 feet in length with a 14-foot beam. It's engineered for comfortable, long-range coastal cruising rather than high-speed performance. The deep V hull configuration provides excellent seakeeping and handling in rough conditions, making it well-suited for Northwest cruising in waters like the San Juans and Gulf Islands. This model emphasizes spacious accommodations, stability, and fuel efficiency over speed, with a cruising speed of 20 knots and maximum speed of 25 knots.
What engine package powers this Silverton 39, and how many hours are on the engines?
This yacht is powered by twin 385-horsepower Caterpillar 3126 diesel engines with only 1,370 total hours. The twin-diesel configuration provides redundancy and balanced power delivery for cruising efficiency and reliability. The engines feature electronic controls for precise operation, and both are equipped with Racor fuel filters for clean fuel delivery. The relatively low engine hours on a 2005 model indicate light, well-maintained use during active cruising over the past five years.
What electronics and navigation systems are included on this boat?
The yacht is equipped with a comprehensive electronics package including redundant navigation plotters—both Furuno NavNet and Garmin units with 10-inch displays. The electronics array includes Furuno autopilot, Garmin 3D bottom sounder, GPS, VHF radio with intercom to the salon, depth sounder, and speed indicator. This redundancy ensures navigation capability even if one system fails, which is important for extended cruising. The full electronics suite supports safe offshore operation and provides real-time information on water depth, bottom composition, and vessel position.

The Silverton 39 features two full staterooms with queen-size berths, plus a convertible jackknife sofa in the salon that provides additional sleeping for two, allowing total capacity of six guests. The master stateroom includes an ensuite head with a separate shower, while a second full head serves the guest stateroom and salon. The interior uses rich solid cherry woods, raised panel doors, genuine Corian countertops, and Flexsteel furniture with UltraLeather surfaces. The SideWalk configuration maximizes the open feel of the salon by reducing interior steps while maintaining safe deck access, creating a surprisingly spacious interior for a 40-foot vessel.
What heating and cooling systems keep the interior comfortable in different seasons?
The yacht features three separate reverse-cycle heat and air conditioning units with digital controls throughout the interior, plus a dedicated diesel heating system on the bridge. This multi-zone approach allows independent temperature control in different areas of the boat. The reverse-cycle units provide both heating and cooling, while the hydronic diesel bridge heat ensures the helm area remains comfortable during extended cruising in cold weather. The combination of systems ensures year-round comfort whether cruising in summer or winter conditions.
What thrusters does this boat have, and how do they improve handling?
The yacht is equipped with both Sidepower bow and stern thrusters, which significantly enhance docking and close-quarters maneuvering without requiring the main engines. A new stern thruster was recently installed, ensuring reliable operation. These electric thrusters allow the captain to move the bow or stern independently, making it possible to dock or anchor in tight spaces with minimal effort. For a 43-foot vessel, thrusters are a valuable convenience feature that reduces reliance on engine power during slow-speed operations and improves safety in confined waters.
