2021 Sea Fox 328 Commander: A Purpose-Built Offshore Fishing Center Console with Twin Yamaha Power
Overview
The 2021 Sea Fox 328 Commander represents a modern approach to mid-size offshore fishing, combining a proven center console platform with twin Yamaha four-stroke engines and a comprehensive suite of fishing systems. At 32 feet in length with a 10.67-foot beam, this vessel is engineered for both the speed and agility required to reach distant fishing grounds and the stability needed to handle a working crew of anglers. The 328 Commander occupies a practical category in the fishing boat market—large enough to accommodate serious offshore capability and comfort, yet manageable for single or dual operator handling in variable conditions. This particular 2021 model is powered by twin Yamaha F300 four-stroke engines with just 107 hours of documented operation, indicating minimal use relative to the vessel's age. The combination of low engine hours, regular service maintenance, and a transferable hull and engine warranty provides confidence in mechanical condition and ongoing support. The boat is positioned at $215,000 and is located in Apollo Beach, Florida, a strategic location for buyers seeking offshore access to the Atlantic and Gulf Stream fisheries.
Design and Hull Construction
The 328 Commander's design philosophy centers on seaworthiness and fishing functionality. The composite hull and deck construction, reinforced with a vinylester barrier coat and isothalic gel coat system, provides durability against UV exposure and osmotic damage—critical considerations for a boat regularly exposed to saltwater and tropical sun. The hull's Carolina flare at the bow increases buoyancy forward and helps shed water during rough-sea operations, while the self-bailing cockpit with stainless steel grates ensures that any water shipped across the transom or during sea state transitions drains overboard automatically. The 10.67-foot beam is substantial for a 32-footer, directly supporting the interior layout's ability to accommodate multiple anglers, storage systems, and the console's functional footprint. This beam-to-length ratio also contributes to stability in following seas and reduces the vessel's tendency to roll during turns or when anglers are working the sides.
Helm and Electronics
The helm setup reflects a professional fishing-focused design. The spacious center console features a lockable door providing weather protection and secure access to the interior compartment, which houses an electric head with a 12-gallon holding tank, a sink with shower head, a Corian countertop, and dedicated storage for nets and rods. The console's digital gauge instrumentation provides continuous monitoring of engine performance, fuel consumption, voltage, and tank levels through a single multifunction display with backlight and push-button controls. Navigation and fish-finding capability are driven by dual Garmin 8616XSV touchscreen units, each equipped with through-hull CHIRP transducers (B175L and B175H models). This redundant electronics setup ensures that loss of a single display does not compromise the ability to navigate or locate fish. The Garmin 8616XSV platform supports integrated GPS, sonar, mapping, and waypoint management, allowing captains to mark productive grounds, navigate to distant spots, and identify structure and baitfish presence. The system's touchscreen interface enables quick adjustment of sonar parameters and chart scaling during active fishing. Autopilot and radar capabilities are integrated into the helm, providing hands-free directional control during transit and enhanced situational awareness in low-visibility conditions or at night. The autopilot function reduces fatigue during long runs to offshore grounds, while the radar system offers collision avoidance and weather detection capability. Electronic power steering (SeaStar EPS) with tilt adjustment provides ergonomic helm control and facilitates engine trim management for optimal performance and fuel efficiency.
Fishing Systems and Deck Layout
The 328 Commander is configured as a dedicated fishing platform with systems designed for both live-bait and structure fishing. The vessel features two pressurized live wells—a primary 1100-gallon-per-hour aerated well with a 55-gallon capacity and a secondary 1110-GPH well with a 35-gallon capacity. Both wells include glass tops for visual inspection and aquarium windows, allowing anglers to monitor bait condition and select appropriate specimens without opening the lid. The live well lighting system enables night fishing and low-light bait assessment. Outrigger mounts are factory-installed, supporting the deployment of multiple trolled baits or lures at varying distances from the vessel's centerline. This setup is particularly effective for sailfish, wahoo, kingfish, and mahi-mahi fishing in the waters accessible from Apollo Beach. Four insulated in-floor fish boxes with overboard discharge systems provide secure storage for the day's catch while maintaining water flow to keep fish fresh. The boxes are positioned for convenient access and rapid processing. Additionally, two insulated bow storage compartments offer supplementary capacity for ice, additional tackle, or spare equipment. Rod storage is comprehensive, with 34 total rod holders distributed throughout the vessel: 21 deck-mounted holders, 2 integrated into the seating pod, and 11 mounted to the Ultima hard top. Insulated in-floor rod boxes provide protected storage for premium rods and reels, while gunwale-mounted holders keep frequently used tackle immediately accessible. Stainless steel closeout rings on all rod holders prevent line entanglement and tackle loss. The transom includes a side-opening door with stainless steel frame, facilitating safe access to the water for diver entry, equipment deployment, or crew recovery. This feature is particularly valuable for multi-day offshore trips where crew comfort and safety require controlled water access.
Comfort and Seating
The 328 Commander's layout accommodates both functional fishing operations and extended cruising comfort. The console includes a coffin box lounger with armrests spanning 52 inches, providing seating for a crew member or a secure rest area during transit. Bow cushions with curved backrests and fold-out bow backrests create a forward seating area suitable for observation, sun exposure, or relaxation during anchored periods. A flip-up jump seat with below-deck storage is positioned in the cockpit, providing additional seating without consuming permanent deck space. A rear folding bench seat offers transom-area seating for anglers working the stern or additional crew members during transit. The Ultima hard top provides shade and weather protection for the helm and forward cockpit areas, integrated with recessed LED spreader lights (two units) for nighttime operation and safety. The hard top's molded-in storage boxes offer secure stowage for small items, tackle boxes, or personal gear, while a forward safety storage box provides dedicated space for life jackets, flares, and emergency equipment. A slide-open moonroof section allows ventilation and reduces the sense of enclosure during extended helm time. Upholstery throughout the seating areas uses marine-grade vinyl with diamond-stitch detailing, selected for durability in saltwater environments and ease of cleaning. Coaming pads provide cushioning along the vessel's interior edges, reducing fatigue during extended fishing sessions. Faux teak decking in the cockpit area offers aesthetic appeal and slip resistance.
Interior and Console Facilities
The console's interior compartment functions as a functional cabin space, though it is not designed as a sleeping berth in the traditional sense. The coffin box lounger can accommodate a crew member for rest during extended offshore operations, and the 30-gallon fresh water tank with washdown system provides rinse capability for tackle, hands, and equipment. The electric head with a 12-gallon holding tank and overboard discharge enables sanitary facilities during full-day and multi-day trips, eliminating the need to return to shore for crew comfort needs. Storage is distributed throughout the console, including a footrest/storage insert, net storage, rod storage under the lounger cushion, and a 65-quart Yeti cooler with mechanical slide-out drawer for provisions, beverages, and bait preservation. Fourteen cup holders are integrated throughout the seating and console areas, supporting beverage access during fishing operations.
Power and Performance
The twin Yamaha F300 four-stroke engines deliver 300 horsepower each, providing 600 combined horsepower for a rated top speed of approximately 57 miles per hour. The four-stroke design offers fuel efficiency compared to two-stroke alternatives, reducing operational costs during long transits to distant fishing grounds. The engines are equipped with digital fuel management systems that optimize combustion efficiency and provide real-time fuel consumption data through the helm's multifunction display. The vessel's fuel capacity of 313 gallons supports extended offshore operations, with the ability to reach distant grounds and return without refueling. The fuel/water separator system protects the engines from contaminated fuel, a critical safeguard in commercial-grade marine fuel environments. Two starting batteries and two deep cycle batteries provide redundant electrical capacity, while the remote-controlled battery switch at the helm enables emergency power isolation if needed. The factory prep package includes two stain
