Our Thoughts

The 2025 NorthCoast 315 HT represents a thoughtfully evolved design in the pilot house sport fishing category, built on the builder's proven heritage of coastal and offshore capability. At 35 feet with a 10.17-foot beam, this hardtop-equipped center console delivers the proportional balance and seaworthiness that define the NorthCoast aesthetic—high freeboard, flared bow, and the classic sheer profile that works across river systems, nearshore grounds, and offshore canyons alike.

Hull & Performance

The 315 HT's 23-degree dead-rise hull is engineered to plane efficiently and track predictably through varied sea states. Twin 300 HP Yamaha outboards deliver approximately 59 mph wide-open throttle capability, though the hull design is optimized to achieve planning and cruising efficiency at lower power settings. At 3,500 rpm cruising speed, the boat maintains 31 mph while burning 17.4 gallons per hour (1.83–2.0 mpg), yielding a range exceeding 500 miles on the 316-gallon fuel capacity. The full weight of 12,212 pounds—fuel and tackle loaded—is distributed across a three-strake hull form engineered for a dry, predictable ride and quick transition to plane.

Fishing-First Layout

The 315 HT's cockpit configuration prioritizes angler workflow and crew efficiency. The removal of the traditional L-shaped pilothouse settee opens sightlines and reduces cabin time when fish are breaking. Port and starboard aft seating flanks the helm station, allowing crew to monitor conditions and prepare tackle without compromising pilot visibility. The full transom incorporates a large walk-through door, twin live wells (26 gallons and 19 gallons for specialty baits), and a full Armstrong swim platform with twin-engine bracket. Macerated in-deck fish boxes total 116 gallons combined (58 gallons each), providing efficient catch storage. A port-side tuna door and full 60-inch folding cockpit seat round out the working deck. A standard cockpit grill and sink with dedicated storage for grilling tools and tackle complete the fishing-ready specification.

Accommodations & Comfort

Below deck, the layout sleeps three with a private head compartment and a three-quarter beam athwartship aft berth measuring 6'8"—sized for couples or junior anglers on extended trips. The cabin incorporates traditional wooden drawer faces and head door veneer, blending down-east New England styling with modern marine systems. A standard pull-out refrigerator drawer, 40 gallons of fresh water capacity, and a private head with separate entry ensure functional comfort for overnight cruising or weekend family expeditions.

Equipment & Systems

The 315 HT comes equipped with a hardtop, helm and companion seating, and standard instrumentation befitting a modern coastal cruiser. Factory options expand capability and comfort: rocket launchers (hardtop or transom mounted), hot water with city water connection, air conditioning, and bow thruster for tight-quarters maneuvering. The hardtop provides weather protection and structural integrity for the helm station, while the integrated electronics and systems architecture support both fishing and cruising missions.

Ownership Context

This is a practical, well-proportioned offshore fishing platform that does not sacrifice cruising comfort or seaworthiness. The 315 HT appeals to owner-operators seeking a single boat capable of day-fishing trips, weekend coastal runs, and longer cruises with family or crew

2025 NorthCoast 315 HT: A Pilot House Sport Fishing Boat Built for Coastal and Offshore Capability
The 2025 NorthCoast 315 HT represents a thoughtful evolution in the builder's heritage of blending traditional New England fishing boat design with contemporary offshore functionality. At 35 feet in length with a 10.17-foot beam, this pilot house sport fishing boat is engineered to deliver the speed, seaworthiness, and fishability expected by serious anglers and coastal cruisers who demand both comfort and capability in a single platform.
Overview and Design Philosophy
NorthCoast has refined the 315 HT to address the specific needs of anglers and cruising families who operate from Maine's rivers and canyons to offshore grounds. The boat's proportions reflect the builder's signature sheer and modern coastal design language—a 23-degree dead-rise hull that promises responsive handling and the ability to cross wave tops with efficiency. The design philosophy prioritizes simplicity without sacrificing innovation, a commitment evident in every system and layout choice aboard. Displacement is 12,212 pounds when fully fueled and ready to fish, a weight that the hull is designed to plane quickly and efficiently even with moderate power. Standard power comes in the form of twin 300-horsepower Yamaha outboards, a pairing that delivers wide-open throttle speeds of approximately 59 miles per hour while maintaining the operational flexibility and reliability that outboard propulsion offers. At cruising speeds of 31 miles per hour at 3,500 RPM, the 315 HT burns 1.83 to 2 miles per gallon, consuming approximately 17.4 gallons per hour—metrics that support extended range and reduced operational costs.
Fuel Capacity and Range
The 315 HT carries 316 gallons of fuel, with 300 gallons usable, a significant increase from earlier models that extends range to over 500 miles depending upon speed, load, and sea conditions. This fuel capacity, combined with the hull's efficiency, enables multi-day fishing trips and coastal cruising without the need for frequent refueling. The boat is designed to maintain a reserve of approximately ten percent for the return passage, a prudent margin that reflects the builder's offshore-minded approach.
Helm, Pilothouse, and Seating Configuration
The 315 HT's pilothouse layout prioritizes access to the fishing action. Unlike earlier configurations, the removal of the L-shaped settee opens the cabin and accelerates crew movement from the helm to the cockpit. This design decision acknowledges that serious fishing operations demand quick transitions and unobstructed passage. The helm position features a companion seat alongside the captain's chair, and additional seating is positioned on both port and starboard sides aft of the helm station. This arrangement accommodates both active fishing and casual cruising, allowing crew members to remain engaged with the vessel's operation or to settle into comfortable observation positions during transit. The pilothouse itself provides weather protection and visibility, essential features for extended coastal and offshore passages.
Cockpit Design and Fishing Systems
The lengthened cockpit of the 315 HT is purpose-built for fishing efficiency. Macerated in-deck fish boxes have been enlarged to a combined capacity of 116 gallons—58 gallons in each of two boxes—providing ample space for the day's catch while maintaining the boat's trim and stability. A full transom configuration adds two live wells: a 26-gallon primary live well and a 19-gallon specialty bait well, both essential for maintaining bait quality and live fish during extended offshore sessions. A port-side tuna door in the cockpit enables rapid deployment of rigging and quick access for gaff work, a feature that distinguishes purpose-built sport fishing boats from general-purpose cruisers. The full 60-inch folding cockpit seat provides comfortable seating for anglers and crew, while a large walk-through transom door facilitates safe boarding and water access. An Armstrong swim platform with twin-engine bracket supports the outboard installation and provides a stable platform for water activities. Standard amenities enhance the fishing and entertaining experience: a cockpit grill and sink with integrated storage for grilling tools and fishing tackle eliminate the need for separate coolers and tackle boxes cluttering the deck. A pull-out refrigerator drawer in the galley ensures provisions remain fresh throughout extended trips.
Cabin Layout and Sleeping Accommodations
Below deck, the 315 HT sleeps three, with a private head and a three-quarter beam athwartship aft berth measuring 6 feet 8 inches. This sleeping arrangement accommodates couples and junior anglers or family members during cruising expeditions. The layout mirrors the proven configuration of the earlier 285 HT, refined through years of owner feedback and real-world use. Interior finishes reflect NorthCoast's commitment to traditional New England aesthetics: wooden drawer faces and a head door with wood veneer on the exterior of the head compartment provide warmth and character while maintaining functionality. The private head compartment offers privacy and convenience essential for multi-day trips.
Fresh Water and Comfort Systems
Fresh water capacity of 40 gallons supports extended cruising and daily freshwater needs. The standard pull-out refrigerator drawer in the galley provides convenient cold storage, while the cockpit sink and grill arrangement encourages onboard meal preparation and entertaining. Factory options expand comfort capabilities: air conditioning systems maintain cabin temperatures during warm-weather cruising, while hot water with city water connection brings marina conveniences aboard.
Optional Enhancements
The 315 HT's factory option list addresses specific operational and comfort preferences. Rocket launchers mounted on the hardtop and transom accommodate rod storage and additional fishing tackle rigging. A bow thruster enhances docking maneuverability in tight quarters or challenging wind and current conditions, a valuable feature for single-handed operation or confined anchorages. Air conditioning and hot water systems elevate comfort during extended stays or summer cruising.
Hull and Seakeeping Characteristics
The 315 HT's high freeboard and flared bow work in concert with the 23-degree dead-rise to deliver predictable, dry running characteristics. Three strakes in the hull design contribute to quick planing and comfortable motion, qualities that reduce crew fatigue during long passages and enhance the overall cruising experience. The boat's proportions and sheer—hallmarks of NorthCoast design—provide visual appeal while serving genuine functional purposes in seaway management and water shedding.
Why This Boat Matters
The 2025 NorthCoast 315 HT occupies a specific and valuable niche: it is a pilot house sport fishing boat that genuinely serves both missions. The removal of unnecessary interior elements, the expansion of fishing-specific features such as live wells and fish boxes, and the cockpit design all reflect serious commitment to angling capability. Simultaneously, the cabin accommodations, fresh water systems, and comfortable seating arrangements support extended cruising and family use. For anglers and cruisers operating from Maine and the Northeast who demand a boat that handles coastal and offshore conditions with confidence, provides reliable range and fuel efficiency, and offers genuine fishing functionality without compromising comfort, the 315 HT presents a compelling platform. The twin 300-horsepower Yamaha outboard configuration delivers the speed and efficiency expected by modern boaters, while the hull design and seakeeping characteristics reward those who venture beyond sight of land. The 2025 NorthCoast 315 HT is listed at $369,900 and is currently located in South Portland, Maine.
