2004 Navigator Rival 57: A Meticulously Maintained Pilothouse Cruising Yacht with Advanced Electronics and Extended Cabin Comfort
Overview
The 2004 Navigator Rival 57, *The Next Chapter*, represents the enduring appeal of American-built pilothouse design combined with the practical reality of long-term live-aboard stewardship. Constructed by Navigator Yachts in California, this 57-foot vessel exemplifies the builder's philosophy of blending comfortable interior volume, exceptional storage, and natural lighting into a stable cruising platform. At 15 feet beam and drawing 4.58 feet, the Rival series delivers a balanced hull form suitable for extended cruising and anchoring in diverse conditions while maintaining the shallow-draft characteristics valued by cruising families. Offered at $534,000, *The Next Chapter* arrives with comprehensive documentation spanning multiple ownership periods and a detailed maintenance record since 2017. The vessel's current owner, an experienced yachtsman with over 65 years of yacht ownership, has systematized nearly every major system upgrade and component service. This level of documented care—rather than claims of cosmetic perfection—forms the substantive foundation of the listing and distinguishes the vessel as a seriously maintained cruising platform rather than a showpiece.
Layout and Deck Design
The Navigator Rival's interior arrangement prioritizes livability and social flow. The three-stateroom, two-head configuration accommodates extended cruising families or serious live-aboard use without sacrificing comfort or privacy. Entry from the cockpit passes through double stainless steel doors into the main saloon, a bright, open-plan space with large windows positioned low into the hull to provide seated visibility while maintaining the pilothouse profile above. The master ensuite occupies the amidship position, offering the stability and quietness critical for rest during extended passages. A full walk-around queen berth with new custom bedding sits opposite a vanity/desk with LED lighting and storage. Two hanging lockers and multiple storage lockers address the perpetual challenge of extended cruising wardrobe management. The ensuite head includes a shower stall with Corian countertops and a Tecma head system. Forward of the master, the VIP stateroom features an island walk-around queen berth with overhead deck hatch, hanging locker, abundant storage, flat-screen television, and independent climate controls. The guest bunk room to port accommodates over-under berths, suitable for children or additional crew. Both forward cabins connect to a dedicated laundry area with stacked washer-dryer, a practical feature often absent on comparable vessels. The galley opens directly into the pilothouse dining area rather than being isolated by a bulkhead, maintaining visual connection and social flow. Corian countertops and a retractable Moen faucet support meal preparation. A large apartment-size GE refrigerator with top freezer, three-burner ceramic cooktop, Samsung microwave, and Broan trash compactor provide modern galley functionality. The dinette includes a retractable counter extension and under-seat storage. A Doulton fresh water filtration system serves the dual sinks with garbage disposal. The main saloon settee and matching barrel chair occupy the starboard side, upholstered in cream-tone material. A custom-built 12-volt electric recliner provides individual comfort for television viewing or reading. Built-in display ledges run the length of both saloon sides, and forward bookshelves accommodate personal collections. Large windows to port and starboard, combined with the pilothouse's forward windows, flood the interior with natural light. The high-gloss bird's eye maple interior paneling reinforces the warm, inviting aesthetic while reflecting light throughout the space. The pilothouse lower helm station, positioned on the centerline with starboard-side sliding door access to the foredeck, provides excellent visibility and ergonomic control layout. A FlexSteel electric adjustable helm chair supports extended watch-standing. The staircase arrangement—three stairs to the pilothouse and an open wooden staircase to the flybridge —creates multiple circulation paths and prevents single-point congestion during entertaining or passages. The aft deck spans approximately 100 square feet with new Marine Dex synthetic teak installed in 2023. A varnished table with custom hand-made inlay accommodates four deck chairs with custom cushions matching the Bimini top and shade system. Two Amcrest IP4M-1028 cameras mounted to the stainless steel sliding door frame provide security recording capability. A large deck access hatch to the engine room facilitates maintenance, while a thoughtfully placed light switch adjacent to the saloon doors illuminates the entire cockpit area for safe night boarding. The integrated swim platform, also finished with Marine Dex synthetic teak, provides easy water access and tender boarding. The rebuilt Brower 800-pound capacity davit launches and retrieves the completely rebuilt 13-foot 5-inch Novurania tender powered by a fully serviced 50-horsepower Yamaha outboard. The tender features a custom 14-gallon fuel tank and upgraded electronics.
